TESTIMONIALS

A few words from our past students.

Doug is articulate, patient, knowledgeable and clearly loves what he does. My session on lighting with Doug helped add significant value to the way I took sports photos!
— Storm Deck
One of the important things I learned from Doug is that technical mastery of the equipment is only a small part of photography. A portrait needs to tell a story, and capture in a 2-dimensional image some aspect of the subject’s personality so the viewer engages with the image. Hence, the way you relate to and interact with your subject is essential for a good result.
— David Coleman

Doug Hall is an incredible photographer and an amazing mentor and moreover he is an awesome human being who believes in giving back to the world more than he has taken from it. With over 10 years of experience in photography his skills and knowledge in the field are world class and his work obviously speaks louder than words.

Doug is the most encouraging and supportive mentor / teacher I have ever come across and is one of those rare people who are always available to help.
— Naimat Ahmed
I’d highly recommend a session with Doug at Vita Academy to anyone wanting to improve their photography practise.

Doug was able to assess my level of experience very quickly, and introduced new knowledge at a pace I was challenged by and comfortable with. I came away with a lot of new techniques to practice, and feel like I retained everything I learned on the day. The criticism Doug offered was useful and constructive.

It’s as though there’s a whole new drawer in my mental toolbox - full of things to help me craft better pictures!
— Bec Fassone

Doug Hall has been my photography trainer for the past 18 months and is an amazing teacher with a vast wealth of knowledge and experience in photography. In addition to his extensive skills and experience, Doug is a very down to earth, approachable person with a good sense of humour and genuine generosity. I have really enjoyed his relaxed style of teaching and his passion and love for photography is contagious. Not only has he taught me so much about all things photography, but he has helped me to build my confidence in my abilities to capture and created beautiful images.
— Rachel Riches
Doug is an extremely down to earth individual with an immense amount of passion for what he does. He is not only an incredible photographer but also a fantastic teacher. I am very grateful to have had Doug as my instructor for 18 months.

He gives praise where it is due but is also not shy about being critical of his student’s work and providing honest feedback. His ability to deliver constructive criticism is a big reason he is such a good teacher. Doug’s classes were entertaining, energetic and open to discussion and challenge. They also moved his students from “taking pictures” to “making photographs” of their subject.
